Our team consists of highly qualified and motivated professionals, who are all experts in their field. With many years of experience in education, they have the expertise to provide comprehensive services and support to you and your child.

Joshua Dickson

Director of Student Services

In collaboration with building Principals, supervises the implementation of special education services in Grades PreK-5 and out-of-district students and provides for the ongoing supervision and evaluations of programs and special education faculty and staff, including related service providers.

Additionally, serves as the district’s liaison for:

  • Office of Special Education Policy and Planning (OSEPP);
  • McKinney-Vento (Homeless) Education;
  • Parentally placed private school students and homeschooled students [Proportionate Share];
  • Students who are home-hospitalized or may require at-home services due to health-related conditions; and
  • The Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) regarding programs and services and participates in PAC activities.

Celeste Malvezzi

Associate Director of Student Services

In collaboration with building Principals, supervises the implementation of special education services in Grades 6-12 and Post-Secondary Transition Services and provides for the ongoing supervision and evaluations of programs and special education faculty and staff, including related service providers.

Lauren Barry

Family Engagement and English Learner Education Coordinator
  • Monitors federal and state program compliance for English Learner Education and program implementation within each school and across the district
  • Coordinates ELE after school and summer programs (e.g., EL Hub, EL tutoring etc.)
  • Serves as staff point person for the EL Parent Advisory Council; works in tandem with ELE Parent Council leadership to continuously improve the impact of the Parent Council.
  • Partners with schools on their communication/outreach strategies for engagement events to encourage family participation
  • Develops and sustains District and School Actions Teams to support annual family engagement goals

Laura Frogameni

Preschool & Partnership Coordinator
  • Coordinates Itinerant Special Education Services at over 10 Community Preschools
  • Organizes, coordinates, and attends Friday Playgroups when Public Preschool is Not in Session
  • Organizes, coordinates, and attends screenings for Young Children across the City of Northampton
  • Serves as the district’s liaison to for public preschool enrollment
  • Serves as the point of contact for supporting families in securing  childcare placements
  • Organizes, coordinates, and attends workshops for parents & educators
  • Oversees the Parent Child + Home Visiting
  • Organizes, coordinates, and attends weekday Playgroups for Families with Young Children
  • Organizes, coordinates, and attends various family events each school year

Karen Schiaffo

Interim Director of Health Services
  • Responsible for the hiring, orientation, assignment, and supervision of Health Services staff
  • Provides clinical consultation to the health education staff, physical educators and other administrative and teaching staff
  • Develops and implements data systems to review trends in health status indicators, make adjustments in the health services program and provide the required aggregate data for local and state agencies
  • Serves as the district’s liaison to the Department of Health and Human Services
  • Coordinates all aspects of the Essential School Health Services grant
